* TATTOO CARE * Follow these rules for the best tattoo preparation and aftercare! Before you get tattooed, make sure you've got a full stomach and that your well rested.
Leave your bandage alone! Your artist took the care to cover up your new tattoo for a very good reason - to keep air-born bacteria from invading your wound. Yes, as pretty as your new tattoo is, it is still a wound. Open flesh is a breeding ground for bacteria and infection. Leave the bandage on for a minimum of two hours.
Tattoos take time to heal, which means there is a slight risk of a possible infection if good hygiene is not followed. Keeping your tattoo clean can prevent most infections. The sun is your tattoos worst enemy, if you expose your healing tattoo to the sun it can fade the ink before it is even healed. Tattoos that are exposed to the sun too soon look faded, blurry, washed out and much older than they should. Under no circumstances expose your healing tattoo to prolonged direct sunlight or sun beds. Here @ Siamese 5 we suggest you use Bepanthan for an aftercare ointment, apply twice a day and gently and wipe off the excess. You should shower with a new tattoo. It's OK to get your tattoo wet, just don't soak it. Avoid baths, hot tubs and definately the sea for 2-3 weeks, but showering is perfectly fine as long as you don't saturate your tattoo. If you get soap or shampoo on your tattoo, just remove it quickly with water. Swimming, whether it be a pool, fresh water or salt water, should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. After your tattoo is healed, from now on, you should always protect it from the sun's ultraviolet rays. These can fade and damage your tattoo very fast. Make sure when sunbathing you protect your tattoo with a minimum 30SPF sunblock. This will keep your tattoo vibrant for many years! Enjoy your new peice of body art!
